Music Plan for Jan 31, 2010

Hello Team,

We've identified centrally with the theme of Love in the second reading. In the first reading God says to us through the prophet that He has chosen us, appointed us, dedicated us as prophets to proclaim the Word to the nations without fear for He is our strength. We found the Gospel hard to understand, but think it flows from the first reading in that a prophet's work is not easy - proclaiming the good news will meet resistance and challenges.

Prelude: Power of Your Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfqK5X248Zo
The opening lines of this song are appropriate for a prelude, "Lord I come to You / Let my heart be changed, renewed ...." Preparing ourselves to approach the table where we will hear the call to proclaim the Word and to Love, we ask God to surround us with His love and ask "Your Spirit lead me on / In the power of Your love"

Gathering: Love Has Come (Maher) SS2-297
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/64918
A generally resounding praise song to God that speaks of "prophets", "voice", "Word" and "love" that are major themes of the readings. (suggest skipping the bridge for congregational singing.)
or
Gather Your People (Hurd)
http://cdn.ocp.org/shared/mp3/preview/11207_2_6.mp3
The song Gather Your People is a general purpose gathering song that echos the last two weeks' theme of the Body of Christ and tying it with "one spirit of love"; "brothers and sisters ... Free us, O Lord, from hardness of heart"

Psalm: Psalm 71 - I Will Sing (Haas) Gather Comprehensive 71

Gospel Acclamation: (Sung to Mass of Glory)
He sent me to bring | glad ti-dings | to_ the po-or
And to proclaim | to the ca-ptives |_ li-ber-ty-y-y

Preparation: Ubi Caritas (Rosania)
http://cdn.ocp.org/shared/mp3/preview/10211_1_5.mp3
I think this song speaks (sings) for itself about the theme of love: "Where true charity and love dwell, God himself is there." You have several options of this song, one by Hurd, and the Taize version have been sung by our group before.

Communion: You Are Near (Schutte)
http://cdn.ocp.org/shared/mp3/preview/11335_1_14.mp3
Hearing our call to go out and proclaim the Word, being Christ to one another, we trust in God to protect, lead and guide us as we read in the First Reading. You could also interchange You Are Near with Ubi Caritas.

Meditation: Nothing Without You (Norman)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLeDySWGfOw
A response to the First Reading heading to the call for us to be prophets, but recognizing that we rely on God for the strength to lift our hands, to pour out our voice: covered by God's love, the world will see Him, not us - for we are nothing without Him.
or
You Alone (Hart/Liles)
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/51854
A beautiful song of praise and thanksgiving, "Love is you alone ... Greater love has not been known / than that for which you gave / your only son"

Sending: With One Voice (Manalo)
http://cdn.ocp.org/shared/mp3/preview/11209_1_21.mp3
This is a response to the First Reading and Gospel where we learn that we are dedicated by God to be prophets of the Word; so we "take the Word and go out to eve'ry land: shine the light of Christ for all to see!"

The Catholic Newman Center - An Introduction

We Are One Body

Prelude: All Who Are Thirsty
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-2SFPXT7kI
On some level, I was thinking that All Who Are Thirsty would allow us to tie FTK memorial mass to this Sunday for those who missed Friday :) But it also ties in with the Gospel - if you thirst for something missing (sight, comfort, freedom, strength), let Jesus quench it for that is what he came to do, so come Lord Jesus, come!

Gathering: Song of the Body of Christ
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/13460
This goes with the First Reading for rejoicing and the Second Reading for Body of Christ and Gospel in verse 2. Plus, if we do All Who Are Thirsty ending with "Come Lord Jesus Come", we meet Christ half way and respond, "We come as your people ..."

Psalm: Psalm 19 (Vince Nim)
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/66399

Gospel Acclamation: (sung to Mass of Glory)
He sent me to bring | glad ti-dings | to_ the po-or
And to proclaim | to the ca-ptives |_ li-ber-ty-y-y

Preparation: Jesus the Lord (O’Connor, SJ, Roc )
http://cdn.ocp.org/shared/mp3/preview/9480_1_4.mp3
This is a response to the Gospel's revelation that Jesus is the long awaited messiah: "let all creation bend the knee to the Lord!"

Communion: Remembrace (Communion Song) - Matt Redman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVtfDxGI3aY
With Remembrance we were thinking of the general communion theme, with relevance in Verse 2 to the Gospel with the lines "Know that He has overcome / Every trial we will face. / None too lost to be save, / None to broken or ashamed".

Meditation: We Are One Body
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/16432
An amazing song about being one body in Christ with a nice build up. We shared a reservation on the length of the song, perhaps we could cut one verse out? After the bridge, skip the last verse and go directly to the refrain and end.

Sending Forth: They'll Know We Are Christians
http://www.spiritandsong.com/compositions/578
A Second Reading tie in - people will know we Christians are one, not because we proclaim so, but by our love and the actions that flow from that charity.

Music Plan for Jan 17, 2010

Wonderful readings this week! "Good Stuff"

The first reading speaks to me, no, it screams at me! Telling me that God delights in me, He desires me, He holds me in His heart like a man his bride - that's not just a little light, that's fire!! This follows from last week where Fr Donald told us that through our baptism we are "the anointed" - priest, prophet and king - and BELOVED, in whom He is well pleased - His desire!

On the surface the song Presence sings of our desire for _His_ presence, but if you turn it around it goes for God's desire for our presence too - it works for a prelude song to call upon the Lord's presence in the liturgy.

For meditation, Miracle In You is prompted by the miracle at the wedding feast - that the Lord wants to make a miracle in all of us, so that we can be whole, and live life to the fullest. And so is the Gathering song inspired by the feast of the wedding table.

The second reading gives us the theme of we are many part, but all belong to one body, which are reflected in the Prep and Communion songs. Then we go forth acknowledging that God has chosen each one of us to use our individual gifts for the service of the body of Christ.

Prelude: Presence (Newsboys)
or My Desire (Jeremy Camp)

Gathering: Table of Plenty (BB 310)

Psalm 96: Proclaim His Marvelous Deeds (Smith, Timothy R.)
